Gym Hair And Make-up Guide
We shouldn’t do it, we all know we shouldn’t do it, every beauty expert has told us not to do and yet we still do it. We’re talking about wearing makeup whilst in the gym and/or skipping your hair wash routine once you’re done and we’re looking at you (and ourselves as a matter of fact, as we too are guilty of this top 10 beauty crime).
In our defence, there are numerous (very) valid reasons why you may need to attend your spin class with a full face of base - you've come straight from work, you’re squeezing your gym session into your lunch break or, you may simply lack the confidence to hit the gym barefaced.
So there you go, we’ve admitted that we too are guilty, but as a means of repenting ourselves, we’re going to share our top tips for when you just can't face hitting the gym sans makeup or when you are too tight on time to lather up those locks. Read on to find out how to look your best working out and minimise the damage done by leaving your makeup on.

BEFORE YOU START YOUR WORKOUT
Looking good post workout actually starts pre-workout - before you head to the gym, blast your hair with some dry shampoo . This will help to absorb any moisture that is produced whilst you are sweating it out, meaning that your hair is less likely to require a wash once you’re done. Don’t overdo it though, just in case you do need a touch up once you are done.
CHOOSE YOUR PRODUCTS WISELY
Your base products should always be non-comedogenic (which means they are less likely to clog your pores) but this is especially true if you're choosing to leave your makeup on during your Legs, Bums and Tums class. Avoiding occlusive products can reduce the damage done - liquid products will also fare better as finely milled powders creep into pores, leaving you more vulnerable to breakouts. If you’re feeling brave, skip base products completely and instead focus on your eyes and brows to give definition - your skin will thank you for it!
KEEP LIPS LUSCIOUS
Most gyms are heavily air conditioned, which is known to dehydrate skin. For this reason, try to avoid lipstick whilst working out as most formulas can be somewhat drying - step away from the liquid lipstick! Instead, if you do want a hint of colour, go for a moisturising tinted balm. ONCE YOU’VE FINISHED YOUR WORKOUT
Wash your face ASAP and thoroughly to remove both the makeup and sweat that has built up during your gym session. For some extra oomph, use a clay face mask to really draw out impurities and any remaining makeup.
REFRESH YOUR HAIR
Your dry shampoo should have absorbed any extra moisture but your hair still may not feel or smell as fresh as it would if you were commencing with your normal hair wash routine. Try a spritz of Brûmée to really fake that just washed hair look, feel and most importantly, smell (!).
IF YOU'RE HEADING BACK TO WORK
Eek! You are officially worse than us! Ideally if your building has showers don’t walk, run and not in an orderly fashion to wash that workout grime away. If this isn’t an option, make sure you have some blotting papers handy to help absorb any sweat (the blotting papers from Fenty Beauty are great and come in a perfect dispenser).
To minimise any detrimental effects on your skin, try to resist the temptation of putting any more makeup on. If you feel you look a bit dishevelled after your workout, try adding some colour to your lips for an instantly pulled together look.
